27/02/18 Applications invited for new Community Involvement Scheme

Donegal County Council is inviting applications for the new 2018 Community Involvement Scheme which was announced recently by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.

The Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) is an opportunity for communities to have road repair work carried out on public non-national roads that would not normally be prioritised on the Council’s main roadworks programme.

This scheme is based on community contributions within the range of 15% to 30% and contributions can be in the form of either monetary contributions or works.

The Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) is essentially a joint venture between communities and the local authority aimed at improving the quality of local roads which are in need of repair.

The types of works that are eligible include providing hard stands at field entrances, removal of grass verges or banks, site preparation works including the removal of grass from the centre of the road (where required), opening, deepening and generally maintaining drains alongside roadway and adjoining land including the laying of drainage pipes, (where appropriate), providing gully traps at suitable locations and piping to drains, (where appropriate), opening inlets and opening backshores, unblocking of shores/surface water drains, repair of potholes, surface dressing works and road strengthening works.

Applications are being invited from individuals, community groups and other organisations who wish to participate in the Scheme.  All applications must state the road to be considered and the proposed extent of the community involvement/ contribution.

Details of the Scheme, the Expression of Interest Form and further information will be available here and at any of the Council’s Public Services Centres.

The closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 4.30pm 9th March 2018.
